    A Web Application is a generic term used to describe software programs that are built to target web browsers. Examples of web browsers are Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. Examples of web applications are Amazon.com's retail website or Intuit's TurboTax tax filing application. Designing a full featured web application is significantly more difficult that creating a set of static content web pages. There are many different open source and commercial technologies that can help make this easier. For example, Microsoft provides ASP and ASP.NET.
